The metal heatsink just beside the PCI-e 5.0 shroud is just high enough to not allow a GPU with heavy heatsink to lock into place. There is a second issue which people don't know about: I too got the ASUS PRIME Z690-A and ran into your issue. The Gen 5 slot is in its own IOMMU group. I assume they did it to prevent non-technical users from accidentally playing games on their integrated graphics instead of their discrete graphics, and they assume somebody with both slots populated knows what they're doing, but this is a pretty ham-fisted way of doing it IMO.Īlso, since this information is usually pretty hard to come by, I can confirm that the IOMMU groups look good on this board for VFIO GPU pass-through, although I haven't yet attempted it myself.
